About Ferrytoll

Ferrytoll Park & Ride is a bus park & ride scheme from the South of Fife to Edinburgh. It is a joint initiative - developed between Fife Council and Stagecoach - and comes as part of the Cross Forth Transportation Plan. The aim is to tackle congestion problems as the number of vehicles crossing the Forth Road Bridge every day tops 60,000. Construction started in November 1999 and the site opened in November 2000 at a cost of £4.2m. The scheme's construction was funded by The Scottish Executive, Fife Council, The European Union and Scottish Enterprise Fife. After proving successful, with the original 500 space car park nearing capacity, work commenced in August 2004 to expand Ferrytoll to over 1000 spaces, including a multi-storey car park.

Ferrytoll fully re-opened in May 2005.

Ferrytoll Park & Ride has featured in many prestigious transportation competitions since it opened.

Initially, being commended in the National Transport Awards 2001, Ferrytoll became a winner in the Bus Industry Awards 2001. Since then, a 'top ten' position at the Dynamic Place Awards 2002 was followed by a Certificate of Recognition at the European Public Transport Awards 2003.

More recently, Ferrytoll has won the 'Best Interchange' Award at the British Parking Awards 2006 and the 'Environmental Best Practice' Award at the Green Apple Awards 2006.

The site has also achieved 'Safer Parking' status through the 'Park Mark' scheme.
